Meet Our Mentor: Melissa Rivas
Melissa Rivas is a rising Senior at Mills College, majoring in Child Development. Her passion for working with children comes from years of being a caregiver and working as a teacher assistant in classrooms. She has researched the experiences of one language minority group regarding the effects of not having a strong heritage language competence.
With the perspective of Latinx parents and children, her research provided a greater understanding of how second-generation families experience language loss and connect to their ethnic culture. Melissa‘s plans for post-graduation are attending Graduate School in Educational Psychology.
